Day 30

From Soccer to Baseball Back to Soccer

If you read my other blog, you may have seen the September post linked above about Jackson deciding to play baseball last fall.

Here is an excerpt from that post...

"The group of boys that he has played soccer with the past few years are a year older than Jackson, and when it came time to try out for a more advanced soccer league (per age group), Jackson didn't make a team.  He was very disappointed, but again, these leagues are based on age.  He should have been trying out for the 10U at age 9, but he tried out for 11U at age 9.  We honestly were not surprised that he did not make a team, but I think this made a huge impact on Jackson.  So....he decided to play baseball instead."

Jackson liked baseball ok, but not nearly as much as soccer.

This winter, he was able to play indoor soccer for his old coach.  This coach also coaches one of the teams Jackson tried out for last spring.  Those teams stay together for the fall and spring of the next year.  Well, the coach lost a player, and he asked Jackson to play up for him on this spring's team.

Today I picked up some of Jackson's team gear!

He could not wait to try it on!

Day 29

My photography class started its own hashtag group in Instagram so that we can keep all of our photos together.  Each week we will be assigned a new theme!

This week's theme is "Circles"...the interpretation has been left up to us.

My Instagram photo today:

I like how the tops of the individual dolls look like circles.

In keeping with today's photo, I also snapped a few photos of this Matryoshka doll with my Nikon.  Here is the series...

We brought home many of these "stacking dolls" or "Russian dolls", but this is one of my favorites.

{In hindsight, I should have lined up the tops and bottoms a little better!  :) }

Day 27

Jackson's chore money is always burning a hole in his pocket!

He has an airsoft gun, but he really wanted a BB gun too.

So after church, Jack talked his dad into going shopping for a Red Ryder!

Jackson spent a good portion of the day shooting.  He made himself a target out of printer paper and painter's tape!

His new motto (after watching "The Patriot") is

"Aim small...miss small!"

Day 26

Tonight we went to see Zac Brown Band with two of our good friends! JC rented a limo! Good times!!!

Day 25

ICE DAY!

As usual, we get sleet and freezing rain instead of snow today!

Again, I couldn't decide on ONE photo so I'm posting several from this afternoon.

The first photos are of the same flowers I posted the other day, the Hellebores.

My camera settings for all of the flower photos are

And this next photo is of our granite countertop outside by the grill.  I was testing out the 1.8 f-stop on my 35mm lens.

I took both boys for haircuts today.

Jackson was lobbying for me to buy this...

Day 21

My mother-in-law kept the kids today so JC and I could work.

As she was leaving, she pointed out our blooming plants on either side of the walkway.

I had no idea they were blooming, and I had no idea that they ever bloomed!  What a nice surprise in the winter!

The plants are called Hellebores.
The common name is the Lenten Rose.

They really are quite beautiful, but they are low to the ground so it is hard to see them right now.  We did find a ton of blooms though.

I can't wait to see what they look like in full bloom!
